So, I really want to get a tattoo. I've had the thought o wanting one for a long time, and now that I'm a big grown-up I finally feel like I'm allowed to. I even know what I want.. Here's my problem: I can't draw, really. I don't do precise art very well, and for the love of all things holy if a tattoo's going to be anything, it needs to be precise. I'm also not exactly sure what kind of style I want--if I could draw I'd just make 10 or so options and figure out which one I wanted.... But that would probably take me so long I'd be wrinkly before I got the fucking thing. Because I'm not sure what I want, I'm very hesitant to ask any one friend to do it for me, because I'd probably be like, "Uhhhhh.... I don't want that on my skin sorry again pleeze?" Which would be shitty and embarrassing and alloverick. So. Here is my proposition.

Here is the basic image I'd like for the tattoo (the humpback whale, that is). That's essentially the shape and size I want, the litheness of the critter being the aspect of it I'd most like to preserve. Also, the size is a thing to keep in mind; if you print out that image, it should be the size I want. It's going on my outer calf, tail up, nose pointing with my toes. The image will also likely be inverted, because I'm fairly certain I want it on my right leg.

As to style.... I'd lean closer to tribal than to cartoonish, if that makes sense. I don't think I want it to be totally black ink, but I definitely want it to be pretty monochromatic.... Honestly, I don't do this art thing good. Go crazy; the worst thing that happens is... I hate it and never talk to you again. More likely, I'll think it's cool, but not right for me/a tattoo/it's not perfect dammit. Maybe I'll wind up with a beautiful perfect something to get tattooed, love you forever and buy you presents. Maybe not. Maybe no one will even pick up this nonsense at all, who knows? But, if you're sitting bored and you want to make art but don't know what art to make, I entreat you to print out this image and doodle whales for half an hour or so, or fuck with it on Photoshop, or cut it up and glue it together again in a strange way, or draw something else entirely.
